How to choose an ESD floor?

The ESD floor is the basis of grounding wherever staff move around. Together with ESD shoes it forms a system that dissipates charge to ground in a controlled way.

What is an ESD floor and how does it work?

A floor covering with defined electrical resistance that safely dissipates charge from people – via ESD shoes – to ground.

Types of ESD floors

ESD PVC floors

Robust and easy to maintain, common in manufacturing and storage.

ESD vinyl floors

Hard-wearing, in tile or sheet form.

ESD tiles

Durable and easy to repair – individual pieces can be replaced.

ESD coatings

Conductive paints for existing floors, ideal for renovation.

Conductive vs. dissipative floor

Conductive floors dissipate charge faster, dissipative ones more slowly and in a controlled way. The choice depends on requirements and component sensitivity.

Standard requirements and measurement

ČSN EN 61340-5-1 sets resistance limits; the floor is measured regularly at several points. See how ESD testers work.

What to watch out for?

Load, cleaning, subfloor and the combination with ESD shoes – without suitable shoes the floor has no effect.

How to choose?

Choose by type of operation, traffic and budget. Browse ESD floors or find more guides in the ESD Guide.
