How to choose an ESD mat?
The ESD mat is the heart of every ESD workbench. It provides a dissipative work surface on which sensitive components can be handled safely.
What is an ESD mat and how does it work?
A cover made of dissipative material that leads charge from components and tools to ground in a controlled way via the grounding point.
Types of ESD mats
Table mats
The most common option for workstations, usually two- or three-layer.
Custom-made mats
Cut to the size of the bench, ideal for special workstations.
Floor mats
For standing workstations – grounding while standing without a continuous ESD floor.
Construction and grounding
The mat is connected to the common grounding point with a snap and a grounding cable. An ESD bench forms the framework.
Standard and measurement
ČSN EN 61340-5-1 requires defined dissipation values; the surface resistance is checked regularly.
Care and mistakes
Clean with suitable products; aggressive cleaners destroy the properties. A common mistake is failing to ground the mat.
