How to set up an ESD program?
Many companies invest in ESD equipment, but real component protection does not come from buying a few wrist straps. Effective protection relies on a well-thought-out ESD program – a system of rules, measures and checks.
What is an ESD program?
A set of rules, processes and measures that protect electronics from discharge. It usually includes an ESD policy, EPA workstations, grounding, measurement and training – most often to ČSN EN 61340-5-1.
Step 1 – Identify risks
Determine where ESD-sensitive components are handled – SMT manufacturing, manual assembly, testing, service, storage and laboratories.
Step 2 – Appoint an ESD coordinator
A responsible person manages documentation, training, the measurement plan, handling of non-conformities and communication with auditors.
Step 3 – Set up the EPA workstation
